The sun was just setting over Dollywood when my kids and I waited for the Candlelight Carolers performance during our last visit. This new show takes place on the steps of the iconic Robert F. Thomas Chapel. It’s a remarkably breathtaking spot nestled at the foot of the mountain in Craftsman’s Valley.
This Christmas season, Dollywood’s chapel is lit with soft lanterns lining the steps. A beautifully-detailed manger scene overlooks the seating area.
My children and I took a seat and begin to soak up every detail. Above the chapel hangs dozens of lanterns suspended from trees. The chapel doors are open providing a view inside. Dollywood hosts hand out a battery-powered candle for this performance because there’s an opportunity for the audience to participate during the show. My kids thought that was especially fun!
The choir appeared on the church steps just as they began and with the signal of a tuner, they started singing an angelic array of Christmas hymns. The glimmer of light across the audience’s faces brought a sense of indescribable peace. We were then instructed to turn on our candles and join in singing a holiday favorite – Joy to the World!
It was a magical end to our Dollywood day and a wonderful reminder of God’s faithfulness.
Afterwards, I had the opportunity to meet with the team lead performer – Brittany. “Christmas has always been about more than gifts, but it’s especially true this year. This year, I think we all see the true meaning of Christmas clearer than ever before,” she explained. “We want to provide encouragement to our guests and what better way than through familiar Christmas hymns.”
The carolers perform five shows each night the park is open and this space offers approximately 60 seats for guests (plus lots of standing room).
