Make Your Own Knife at Dollywood

Now this is cool.

My nephew recently turned 16, and I heard that the Dollywood Blacksmith & Foundry in Craftsman’s Valley taught the skill of knife-making! I knew he would jump at the chance to make his own knife, but I had no idea what a fun experience this would be for both of us. I learned a lot just from watching Master Craftsman John show Payton how a knife is forged.


There are three different kinds of knives you can choose from, and the price varies based on the style of the blade.

Insider Tips

• When you arrive at the park, head straight to the Blacksmith shop (located beside the Robert F. Thomas Chapel in Craftsman’s Valley) to make an appointment. Once you are on the schedule, you can plan the rest of your Dollywood day.
• Plan to allow 30 minutes to an hour to create your knife.
• Invite your friends and family to watch. It’s a fun learning experience for everyone!
