Ice Skating Delights at Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures Christmas

Snow falls gently on the mill and stage at Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures– or so it seems. A multi-dimensional projection lighting system has the capabilities to create a variety of beautiful settings for the latest show, Smoky Mountain Adventures Christmas. The beautiful decorations pair perfectly with the gently falling snow to create the ideal holiday atmosphere. This delightful dinner show will have all your senses tingling when you experience the excellent performances, including an interesting elf, enchanting acrobatics, exquisite figure skating, a live Nativity, a Bluegrass Nutcracker, and wonderful music.

New this Christmas season—an ice skating trio is sure to dazzle and amaze you. I had the opportunity to meet with them, and they very graciously (and patiently) taught me a few ice skating maneuvers. They make it look easy, but believe me- it’s not!

As a former aerialist, I’m most comfortable up in the air; tackling a new skill on the ground was a tad intimidating. I’m certainly not a natural, but they were so kind in helping me (including helping me put my ice skates on, because apparently I did it wrong. Oops. I’m sure glad the experts were there to help!).

These incredible professional ice skaters hail from different corners of the U.S. and have traveled all over the world. Veronica Hochstein, Amanda Merritt, and Allen Shanon are a wonderful team, gliding across the ice flawlessly. They came to Pigeon Forge for this new Christmas show, and each has an impressive background, from competitions to international tours to films. All three began skating as children, and fell in love with the thrill of the ice as well as the art of performing. They shine on the ice, twirling, spinning, and doing acrobatics (on the ice! How crazy is that?!). They’re even good with the basics—see my video below.

As I chatted with the skaters, I learned that being part of a show with such a diverse array of acts often leaves them in awe. Typically, they travel with other ice skaters. Being surrounded by performers with a variety of different skills encourages admiration all around. Lakieta Bagwell-Graves provides the chill-inducing vocals that Hochstein enjoys, while Shannon appreciates the acrobats and teeterboard act and Merritt loves the live nativity scene. Mutual appreciation creates an environment of positive morale, echoed in the show itself. When you see the performers in their element, you can tell they love what they’re doing.

If you’re a fan of the regular show, you won’t be disappointed with the Christmas show. Beloved narrator and storyteller Apple Jack leads the journey, with audience favorites including the miming elf, acrobats, and our friends the ice skaters. With Christmas memories and a goal of saving Christmas after a snow storm shuts down the town, you’re sure to enjoy every minute of the show, from your pre-show meal to the final bow.

As Apple Jack says, “Christmas is always a special time in the Smoky Mountains.” It certainly is, and some Christmas magic has landed at Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures Christmas. This Christmas tradition is one you won’t want to miss!
