Dollywood Pumpkin Facts

It’s pumpkin season! And, if you didn’t know—Dollywood has become THE pumpkin destination.

I pulled together some fun facts for you to enjoy as you make your way to Dollywood’s Harvest Festival featuring Great Pumpkin LumiNights (now through Oct. 30).

Colossal Pumpkins

My first tip is to head to Dollywood’s Market Square where you will find 15 colossal pumpkins! Dollywood displayed these large-scale gourds last season and they were so popular with guests, they decided to have more brought in this year. And, they’re even larger than last year! Together these pumpkins weigh in at 14,613 lbs.! They hail from five different states, with the largest coming from Little Valley, New York. It weighs 1,617 lbs.

I learned a lot about colossal pumpkins from one of Dollywood’s blogs posts they shared last year. One take away is that these gourds are more likely to taste like squash than pumpkin because of the high-water content. But, in my own research I found that pumpkins are technically a fruit in the same family as cucumbers, honeydew melons, cantaloupe, watermelons and zucchini.

Pumpkin Palettes

Fall is a season of absolute beauty. The colors are amazing—especially in the mountains. Even the pumpkins enjoy surprising splashes of color. Beyond traditional orange, you’ll see Dollywood showcase pumpkins of blue, white, green and more. They explained their new approach to their fall color zones in this blog posted last season.

How Many?

In all, Dollywood has nearly 15,000 pumpkins throughout the park during the Harvest Festival. Some are real, some are “pumpkin people” and some are carved Funkins. You will see different sizes and themes. The Great Pumpkin LumiNights footprint (upper Craftsman’s Valley, Wilderness Pass, Wildwood Grove and Timber Canyon) is definitely worth walking through during the day AND night. The pumpkins glowing to life is a completely different experience. I set out to see if I could keep count of the pumpkins I spotted, but I got distracted early on with the heavenly smells wafting from Spotlight Bakery—and all the spots I wanted to stop and take a selfie!

I love pumpkin season, and my family loved visiting Dollywood to celebrate this enchanting time of year. You should check it out, too!
