Countdown to Dollywood’s 2018 Grand Opening

Dollywood’s 2018 Grand Opening Day is almost here, and I can’t wait to experience all of my favorites and everything new during their “Season of Showstoppers!”

As you may know, Dollywood closes for a couple of months during winter in order to refurbish, renovate, and add exciting new things for the season ahead. Every year there are wonderful new attractions, entertainment options, and dining delights to look forward to when the park reopens in March, but, as the late, great Tom Petty said, “the waiting is the hardest part!”

So, in the meantime, I’m entertaining myself with thoughts of everything I’m looking forward to experiencing again when the gates re-open, and I thought I’d share my TOP THREE with you!

3. A Feast for the Eyes

Though winter sometimes seems so dark, gray, and dreary, March never fails to roll back around every year with its promise of sun, fun, and spring! The days are longer and brighter, and I get so excited to see all of the beautiful signs of spring! The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Pigeon Forge come alive during this time with beautiful budding trees and flowers, birds and bees, and of course – Dolly’s favorite, BUTTERFLIES!

Dollywood is always decked out beautifully for spring with gorgeous landscaping, colorful flags representing the Festival of Nations (Dollywood’s first festival of the year), and the bright and cheerful costumes of Dollywood hosts. My first annual visit to Dollywood is always a celebration for my senses!

2. A Feast for the Palate

All winter long, I’ve dieted. And all winter long I’ve dreamed about one thing: Dollywood’s Cinnamon Bread! I can’t wait to break my diet with that cinnamony, sugary, buttery, deliciousness!

Insider Tip

You can now find this delicacy at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa, too!

Some other favorites I’ve been missing include the kettle corn, corn dogs, and anything at the Front Porch Cafe and Aunt Granny’s Buffet! And speaking of Aunt Granny’s, I’m especially looking forward to seeing the updates they’re making this year to this perennial favorite of Dollywood Guests.

1. Friendly Faces & FUN!

Getting back to Dollywood each year is like visiting family for me. The hosts and hostesses (Dollywood employees) are truly the friendliest, most helpful, and most fun people I’ve met in my travels. After many years of visiting Dollywood, I’ve gotten to know so many of them – many of us are on a first-name basis, and many I simply recognize by their genuine, shining smiles.

Since Dollywood Season Passes are such a fabulous deal, so many of my friends – from ALL over – purchase these passes and travel back to Dollywood many times during the year. This makes it great fun to get to run into familiar faces there all the time! My boys and I are always wondering who we’ll run into each time we visit, and it always makes for a memorable time.

There is SO MUCH to look forward to as we countdown the days to Dollywood’s 2018 Grand Re-Opening! I could go on and on adding to this list with things like the incredible musical acts, the awe-inspiring entertainment productions and shows, my favorite rides (for me, it’s now Lightning Rod!), staying at the immaculate Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa, and more, but now it’s time for YOU to add to this list!

I look forward to seeing you at Dollywood this spring!
