Behind the Scenes with Parade of Many Colors

When you come to Dollywood during Smoky Mountain Christmas, there are so many things to see and do—the seven holiday shows to enjoy, four million Christmas lights to see, and seasonal food items to taste—but before leaving, you MUST see the Parade of Many Colors. It will be a highlight of your visit.
As a Dollywood Insider, I got the opportunity to go behind the scenes to show you the floats up close. Watch the video as I climbed into the cockpit of the butterfly float!

*The Parade of Many Colors happens nightly at 8:15 p.m. during Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana.

What does it take to put on a parade like this? Click the next tab to see Part 2 of our behind the scenes tour!

If you’re like me, you are probably dazzled by the gorgeous floats, entertained by the whimsical cheese cars, and delighted by the uniqueness of the whole thing. But, have you ever stopped to think what it takes to put a parade like this together?

I found out Dollywood hosts start prepping for the parade five hours before it begins! I also learned that after years of running the parade in the same direction, Dollywood switched it up this year to help with crowd flow leaving the park.

Watch this video to find out:

  • How many people are involved
  • What powers the floats
  • And, what it takes to run the parade in reverse from previous years?
