Back-to-School Blues? Plan Your Dollywood Fall Break Now!

While we’re currently stuck in the muggy mire of a humid August, I can’t help but daydream a couple of months into the future. When the air is crisp and cool, the delighted summertime shouts of children are subdued and replaced by the whisper of wind through the colorful branches and the crunch of leaves underfoot. Just like this back to school season has snuck up on us, fall will be here before we know it. The perfect way to get over the back-to-school blues is to have something to look forward to—what could be better than a Dollywood vacay to lighten hearts and motivate minds?

While fall heralds in cooler days and pumpkin spice coffees (yes!), it also brings the kids back home for fall break. Now is the perfect opportunity to start planning your trip. Crank up the A/C, pull out your favorite sweater and burn that pumpkin scented candle as you fire up the computer and check out all the wonderful things happening at Dollywood and Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa this fall!

Harvest Festival is Sept. 27 – Nov. 2 and offers a myriad of fall fun! This is one my family’s favorite events every year. I’m a massive fan of all things autumn-themed and fall-flavored: pumpkin spices, the aroma of cinnamon at every turn, the scent of nutmeg in the air. Every fall, Dollywood fulfills my autumnal cravings with spiced cider and yummy treats for adults and kids alike. This year, I’m really looking forward to the fried apple pies and traditional apple cider!

One of our favorite Harvest Festival features is the Great Pumpkin LumiNights display. As a parent of young kiddos, it’s refreshing to be able to take my family to a fall event that won’t frighten them. We all love looking at the intricately carved pumpkins, spotting our favorite designs and seeing what amazing things can be built out of pumpkins. I’m also over-the-moon excited to see how Wildwood Grove will be decorated this year!

Insider Tip

A scenic and restful way to see the beautiful Dollywood decorations alongside the brilliant fall colors of the Smoky Mountains is to ride the train--give your feet a break, feel the wind in your hair and enjoy the beautiful views.

There are many great ways to stay at Dollywood. At Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa, I love the family rooms that include bunk beds for the kids and a king-sized bed for the parents. With a game room, an indoor pool and plenty of lovely spots to cozy up and watch the world go by, the resort offers many entertaining options for those out-of-the-park hours. Not to mention Camp DW, with fun crafts for the whole family to enjoy. Bedtime stories and books you can check out from the front desk are more family- friendly options we enjoy during our stays. If anyone in your family has a fall birthday, an afternoon at the spa or a family dinner at the resort’s delectable restaurant makes the perfect treat. (Don’t even get me started on the donut wall and the dessert bar at Song and Hearth!). You can find special deals for Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa here, including 25% off per night!

Did you forget your cinnamon bread while in the park? Don’t worry! The DM Pantry at the resort sells cinnamon bread, too!

If you’d like a Smoky Mountain Cabin experience, Dollywood has a solution for that as well! The cabins offer breathtaking views, comfy lodging and gorgeous decor. Different cabins offer different amenities, including hot tubs, game tables, and community playgrounds. Staying at a Dollywood cabin can expand your trip to include dinner shows, Great Smoky Mountains National Park or the Pink Jeep Adventure Tour. Cabins guests have early access to the park on Saturdays, receive complimentary TimeSaver passes and are eligible for discounts on other local attractions!

Planning your fall break now will give you something to look forward to while also taking advantage of some of the great deals Dollywood offers. The hardest decision you’ll face is deciding where to eat—and we’ve got a quiz for that!
