An Interview with a Spring Mix Artist: Larnelle Harris

Larnelle Harris isn’t taking any requests for his upcoming Dollywood Spring Mix concert, but he is making one: “I want everyone to get busy and bring someone [to Spring Mix] they’ve been sharing with/witnessing to; what a nice time to come out and be a part of Dollywood! Hear some music, take them around the park, sit down at a restaurant and discuss what happened,” he told me.

That’s right, Larnelle is encouraging each of you who are already planning to attend his Spring Mix concert to use the opportunity as a tool to bring people you’ve already been talking with about God. Even though he’s making a request, you won’t find a survey or drop box where you can make song requests for this special event.

“I try to find really what I’m supposed to do that night. You never know until you get there and just go at it.”

But have no fear, you’re going to find the same thing in this Larnelle Harris concert that you’d find at any of his events: joy and Jesus.

“I sing songs about Jesus, about his love, his joy…about a commitment. It’s entertaining, but not just entertainment. We’ll laugh and cry together… and, hopefully, people will be standing up in their seats!”

Admired by fans and peers alike for his majestic tenor voice, Larnelle Harris has become the personification of talent and integrity that has sparked a career that spans more than five decades and earned him the title of the only person in history to be a member of three distinct Hall of Fame organizations (Gospel Music, Kentucky Music and Amateur Radio).

In addition to his time spent touring with the Gaither Vocal Band and as a part of a number of Billy Graham’s crusades, Larnelle has garnered numerous accolades for his music, including five Grammy awards, eleven Dove Awards (three of which were for Male Vocalist of the year) and a Stellar Award for Best Solo Performance.

So what exactly made Mr. Harris want to participate in the inaugural Spring Mix series at Dollywood?

“Anytime I get an opportunity to share – that’s what I do. Music is simply the vehicle to share the opportunity I’ve had where I could put myself in the work God has done in my heart.”

And if there’s one thing we can count on, there will be a whole lot more than singing going on!

“I’m speaking life as I see it. I can’t change it; won’t change it. I have a sense of humor and have fun, but am always looking at the things of faith.”

So mark your calendars: Larnelle Harris will be performing three incredible shows on Monday, April 23 in Showstreet Theater as part of Dollywood’s “Discover Your Inspiration” lineup during Spring Mix.
